Going to visit the Kantaya premises in Ventanilla this week was a very meaningful experience. There were three houses to visit, and it wouldn't be an exagerration to say that every student was passionate about school. Some might have been more distracted or more playful than others, but the motivation was there, and it was evident. The variety of hopes and dreams they had really impacted me. The children's tradition when visitors came was to go around in a circle saying their name, age, favorite food, and what they wanted to be when they grew up. Their dream careers varied from engineers, to teachers, doctors, dancers, firefighters, businesswomen, businessmen, veterinarians, soccer platers, architects, lawyers, and so on. Luckily, Kantaya is giving these children a quality education so if they put their minds to it I believe they can achieve their dreams, but the simple fact that most children who receive a low education don't get these opportunites is awful. From our part, it doesn't take much other than effort and dedication to truly change the student's future and make them burst out of this small bubble and break the poverty cycle. |
The poverty cycle is a phenomenon that has been going on for years, but the secret to break it is there. With just changing one student's destiny you are driving them out of this cycle entirely. With this, not only are you changing the individual's future but their future generations to come as well. |
