Whenever someone would talk to me about writing articles, I wouldn't have a problem with it, but it was never something that I was too interested in. A realization: I had no idea what I was talking about. I thought of articles as long pieces of writing that were just fun to read, not write, until beginning in the IA. My idea of an article was: limited topics, big chunks of writing, and a long editing process. None of these ideas were appealing to me at all.
When we began the process of our articles for the Break, my mind was BLANK. I hadn't the least idea about what I wanted to write about. After a whole 90 minutes spent searching my mind and the internet for ideas, I finally came up with an idea. Why not advertise the sweets business I am working on for my IBG, through the article? All the thinking ended up paying off, because this was a topic I was really interested in writing about. Okay so I had my topic. That was the hardest part right? Wrong . This was just the beginning. Writing an article isn't something done the fast way; it requires a lot of dedication and effort. That is why I think writing about a topic of your interest is crucial if you want a good article. The process was a l o n g one, in which a different kind of research was necessary in order to find my intended information: an interview. |
In order to write about the sweets business, I had to speak to the owner because my article se eked for information that couldn't be found by researching online. Reaching her wasn't difficult, but before actually meeting her I had to be prepared . I challenged myself to make the interview with the owner more of a conversation, for more flowing answers. How correct I was about this; all my questions were answered correctly and indirectly ☻. Since writing is something I enjoy doing it wasn't too difficult to actually put my ideas in words, but obviouslly one can't obtain perfection on their first try. |
Next came the revising and editing process, which was my favorite part of writing this article. This was the first time I had gotten the
opportunity to get one on one feedback . I now realize that this type of feedback is the best way to improve work, because more dedication is put to it. My article ended up being one of the five chosen ones to publish; a great accomplishment. The main lesson I learned this week is that
with a positive mind, dedication and motivation, we can achieve great things, but one has to work for it; it's not easy.
